Have you taken our tour and want to give your own testimonial?
We want to hear what you have to say!

"I have to say this was the best tour I have ever been on. It allowed me to gain insight to a view of history I never knew existed. After leaving the tour I felt inspired and motivated to continue to live my life in a way that brings justice to those who suffered before me. I was very proud to have my son along, although he is at an age where he can not quite grasp the importance of what he saw, it is very important that I raise him with an awareness and pride in his History, Black History."
-- Aja White, Savannah, Georgia

"The "Chocolate City Tour" is an amazing tour. The tour coordinator, Corey, is even more amazing. This is an eye opening tour that everyone should experience. The tour was very informative and just so many facts that are not being taught in the schools. I was just in awe of all the information revealed on this tour. I thank you Corey, and my family thanks you. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour on Saturday. You are definitely one in a million."
-- Angela McNeill

"My two sisters and my brother-in-law took this tour on Saturday, the day before the Marine Corps Marathon, and we are still talking about it. It really opens your eyes and gives you so much hidden history that it takes a while to absorb it all. Definitely not your typical cookie cutter tour, and much better because of it. Thank you, Corey."
-- Carmen Mangual, Hammonton, NJ

"Wow, I am still processing information from Chocolate City Tour of DC. Corey, your ability to find the truth and present it in such a manner the does not provoke anger but provoke one to dig into history for themselves. Your tour pulls the cover off of the past and present of DC. You cover from the Whitehouse through the community; hidden treasures and knowledge. To see and touch where they kept slaves has made an impact like no other; could they have been some of my ancestors? Corey, I say thank you for your faithfulness and desire to educate so that we don't perish for lack of knowledge. Thank you for your passion and professionalism to fulfill what God has given you, a vision. May the Lord richly bless you beyond your expectations as you continue to educate people. I will recommend this tour from the youngest to the oldest. I am certainly coming back again. Thank you."
-- Valarie Reid, Jacksonville, Florida

"Not only was it very informative, it lived up to its name "Chocolate City Tour" by being tasteful and by sharing the hidden history of D.C. from the perspective of Blacks. If you want a "watered down" tour, then this is not the tour for you!!"
-- Jermaine, Baltimore, Maryland

"The tour was an exceptional experience. My husband and I were driven to tears as we went on the tour that must be experienced by anyone desiring to know more about its history and heritage. We thank Corey of Chocolate City Tour for allowing us the priviledge and affording us through this inspirational and knowledgable tour. It has really been an awakening to us that we can tell others about the professionalism, knowledge, hospitality, and expertise of Chocolate City Tour."
-- Ashby & Doris Robinson, Lynch Station, Virginia

"-This was an historical tour that I will never forget. I became overwhelmed with emotions as I stepped into the Slave Dungeon. -The Chocolate City Tour is of million dollar value and it should be experienced by all generations. The experience is certainly worth everyone's time. Your knowledge will swell with the unmentioned and little known facts."
-- Henrietta Beckford & Alberta Myers from Pennsylvania & New York

"I am very happy about this tour because now I want to improve my own knowledge on Black history. We got to know the TRUTH about us!"
-- Maiva Galli, Paris, France

"My bestfriend and I travel to different cities for our annual "Girls Weekend" and this year was no different. The hours at the spa and dining with plenty of seafood around us; we decided to end our weekend with a tour. A friend of mines from work told me of an enlightening, knowledgeable and powerful tour he experienced in DC so I thought why not make a reservation. Corey, the founder and tour guide of Chocolate City tours pleasantly meant us at the Washington Monument. We experienced 3 1/2hrs of live history so powerful you thought you were living it yourself. This is not a "maybe I will do it one day tour"; but a MUST! Take the time to explore your mind and enrich your life. Thank you Corey!"
-- Lisa, Richmond, Virginia

"We decided to take the tour because of the good sales pitch. It was a wonderful decision and worth every cent! We saw things we never knew existed. The info was research based and interesting. There was a relaxed, non commercial tone that made everyone feel comfortable."
-- Tyrone & Patricia Bolton, Denver, Colorado

"I knew there had to be more to DC's history than the buildings and tourist attractions. I found what I was missing on this tour which was the contributions made by Black men and women but which were so well hidden by the bureaucracy of Washington. This tour should be taken by everyone who comes to D.C. Corey is an expert historian. Thank you"
-- Janet Welch, Los Angeles, CA

"The trip was very informative, educational, and emotional. It gave us an urgency to keep our heritage and be proud of the achievement of our Black ancestors. In our opinion, Washington D.C. is the Black Capital of the U.S.A."
-- The Obichukwu Onweghi Family, all the way from Nigeria

"I thoroughly enjoyed this tour, Corey went to extensive measures to ensure that were able to walk away, with a stronger sense of African American history in relation to "Our Nations Capital." I would highly recommend this tour."
-- LaQuita Almon, Valley Stream, New York

"I came to DC to see the 'sights' that everyone talks about and knows; the White House, the Wall, etc. But thanks to the Lord, Corey walked into my life and opened my eyes to a world of DC that I never knew exsited, although I was never ignorant to what happened in the past with slavery and my Black people. What I can say is that I was misinformed and deceived to believe other things. This tour was the most enlightening experience of my life! I not only saw sights but I learned about how many where built and crafted by Black people. What I loved about the tour was that it took us to and explained sights that I never knew and would have never known existed. However, it is not just the sights and the explanations that were inspirational, but the tour guide Corey was exceptional and his knowledge was inquestionable. Corey knows so much about Black History that it can and will bring you to tears, because you learn so much and you feel the history of our people and what they went through to make us who we are today. But you never knew that Blacks built the majority of the buildings in DC. If you have a question about Blacks in DC, ask Corey and I bet you he will know the answer. If he doesn't, I'll give you $100. This was the greatest, most amazing, inspirational, exceptional, superb experience of my life! Go with Chocolate City Tour! "
-- LaVerne Maye, London, England

"The Chocolate City Tour was highly recommended by my cousin for my niece and myself to take during our summer visit to Washington, DC. AWESOME tour! The sites, information and knowledge presented by our tour guide, Corey was extremely educational and thought provoking. Chocolate City Tour is must for all people and ages to get informed about the black slave experience. KUDOS!"
-- G. Lovejoy,Chicago,Illinois

I AM SOMEBODY and this tour proves it!!! Corey is outstanding...thank you so much for such a wonderfully, informative adventure. "
-- Mary I. Washington, Montgomery Village, MD

"Chocolate City Tour is a tour that I iwll never forget.Corey you have done an excellent job and I wish you well. The Slave Dungeon was the most painful part of the tour. I just wish others would take the time out to learn more about our history. I plan to take my sons and some of there friends on this tour soon. It was great hanging out with my girlfriends and going on this tour."
-- Jeanette, Temple Hills, MD

"This tour should be taken by anyone who is interested in learning the true history of how our Nations Capital was founded. President Obama are you interested? -Maureen- It was good to learn about things they dont tell you in schools about Washington DC and slavery. A very good tour. -Maria- I thought the tour was great. The part that I liked most was the slavery part. It made me sad to know how cruel white people used to be to the black people and what they did to them."
-- Vanessa Garcia, Maureen, and Maria, Porterville California

"Vincent- The Chocolate City Tour was great! A truly hidden part of the city brought to light. The guide was very well informed and supported by documentation and many points! Wendy- It was so impressive that I suggest a curriculum be created in schools or for the traveler interested in untold American History, which must be seen!"
-- Vincent & Wendy Jackson, New York

"The Chocolate City Tour was phenomenal! I had no idea that African Americans played such an integral part in the development and construction of this city. Corey’s knowledge of our ancestors’ contributions to DC completely exceeded my expectations. I have a new appreciation for our nation’s capital after having participated in the Chocolate City Tour. Thank you so much, Corey!"
-- Jamie Lanier, Denver, CO

"Still thinking about your wonderful tour, because it is amazing to me that one of my hobbies is learning the past and you managed to make a business of it. One of your future plan should be to teach and train people who are interested in any major city, including abroad, London, Paris, etc. In my travels, I see secrets being erased everywhere. In the Middle East and South America, I see that the old church paints of a brown Christ being replaced by a lighter blond Christ. We are still referred to as the slave people on the Continent of Africa because there still exist that sort of system. For a small business person go to www.tnj.com (a magazine for black professional and small businesses). I subscribe and it is quite good. I recommend the following for reading: ‘The Slave Trade’ by Hugh Thomas (a global business perspective). ‘The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill (a Canadian perspective of the US). ‘The Known World by (Although takes place in the US, this is the complexity that existed in the West Indies). Good luck brother. I wish you complete success. "
-- Sharon Small, New York, NY

"Corey, 1st I can not tell you how proud I am of you and this wonderful accomplishment to step out on faith and pursue your passion for OUR History. 2nd, I have never been more amazed, taken back, enlighten and schooled all at the same time after experiencing this FABOULUS TOUR. You forever have my support! I learned more in 2 1/2 hours about my African American History and how we shaped Washington DC than I did in my 16 years of school. I will be taken the tour again with other friends in the days to come! Thank you for TELLING US THE TRUTH!! "
-- Rena Brown, Bryans Road Maryland

"This tour was intriguing, enlightening, and just AMAZING... to learn that so many African Americans contributed to America's history and right here in our Nations Capital. Our guide was wonderful and gave a thrilling narration; at times I felt that I was right there off in the distance. I recommend this tour to every African American looking for the truth and encourage that you bring your children so they too can learn true history which will never be told in school history lessons. See and feel it for yourself and reflect on how so many suffered and paved the way for the freedoms that we many times take for granite. A MUST SEE! "
-- Shana Taylor, Maryland

"This tour was definitely an eye-opener. We are so humbled by the experiences of our forefathers and the richness of our history. The lack of public knowledge is disgraceful. We are inspired to learn more… challenge and to teach more. Thank you Chocolate City Tour for exposing us to our rightful place in the history of our nation’s capital!"
-- Eric & Katina Robertson, Coatesville Pennsylvania

"Kristen- As someone who finds it hard to pay attention in class, I enjoyed the tour and payed attention to every word and detail expressed during the tour. It opened my eyes to the injustices that took place right in the nation's capital. I will go back to scool enlightened about my people and the past. Thank you Chocolate City Tour. -Grace- I think this tour was interesting and fun. It was interesting because I never knew Harriet Tubman carried a gun. I also never knew that little girls would be sold as sex slaves. Babies as young as 6 months would be sold. It was also fun because I got to see alot of statues and take pictures. -Claudette- The tour was awesome. The history was enlightening and rich. Corey was knowledgeable and accommodating. We recommend this tour to everyone. "
-- The Graham Family, Hartford, CT

"Amazing "underground" tour. Very well researched showing the hidden past. Thinking back to my American History classes I feel like so much was left out. Corey has an amazing knowledge and memory. He is not reading from a Black History book. He tells it from the heart. It was a great experience and I would definitely tell anyone interested in learning the truth to check it out!"
-- Erin Potter, Toronto, Ontario

-- LaToya Howard & Nikia Stanley, North Carolina

"A wide range of Real. Chocolate City Tour took me from the mainstream of D.C to the outskirts and brought nothing but the Real. A fun and fast moving experience filled with history, her story and more sights than any other tour in the city. It was well worth the time. Great Experience, Great Education!"

-- Tammy Elliot, Houston Texas

"This tour was first unexpected. My intention this morning was to tour the capital of the United States of America as all my other family members did. All the great white buildings as seen on television, but it happened that I met Corey who enlightened my eyes to the dark side of this nation’s history. It was eye opening how the country still tried to cover up the dark side of slavery. Thank you Corey and I will remember and recommend this tour. Elroy Wilson "
-- Elroy Wilson, Guyana South America

I came home and emailed all my friends about the wonderful tour I took. This made me realize there was and still is so much suffering in these United States. When I come again I'm going on the tour again with friends. Good Luck"
-- LaQuita Gresham, Jacksonville, Fl

"I would like thank Chocolate City Tours for opening ours eyes to another side of DC that exposed us to the history and contributions of African Americans to this great district and surrounding cities. "Corey had dedication, commitment, and knowledge. Extraordinarily amazing! This tour provided my granddaughter and I with information not available any place else about the orgins of DC, its buildings and builders. Textbook companies and "historians" have been cheating the public when it comes to educating all about American history and our nation's builders and their suffering. Black people are not the only people who should take this tour in the name of education and the preservation of humanity! Bertha F. Henson, Ed.D. age 70"
-- Bertha F. Henson, Ed.D., Columbus Ohio

""Eye Opening" is only one phrase that can describe this experience. The fact that this knowledge could and will make some people uncomfortable is all the more reason to take it. Corey, I thank you and hope that more people take the advise of this and other testimonials. Take this tour, you will be greatful you did. Truth is truth."

"Great Tour! Factual Information on Black History told in interesting and capturing format. "This is a MUST DO tour for anyone who wants to know the TRUTH about how African-Americans contributed to the development of Washington DC (and the nation as a whole). If anyone out there knows Barack Obama, tell him that this should be on the top of his list of priorities for his family once they get settled in the White House. It would be a travesty for his children to grow up in this D.C without knowing the truth about how their ancestors helped build the city. For anyone who has family coming to the area for the holidays, family reunions, weddings, etc., this is a MUST DO tour. The professionalism, knowledge, and heartfelt passion displayed by Corey was mind-blowing! I say, thank you, Corey--but "thank you" is really an inadequate expression of gratitude. "
-- Bev Freeman, Woodbridge, VA

"We took this tour in Nov 08. Corey, no words can describe this tour! From your professionalism, the wealth of information, the soul stirring emotion it invokes and the insight you provided, our entire tour group of 10 was still in awe about this tour two weeks later. Get ready because we have certainly recommended this tour to anyone who appreciates the value in knowing the 'chocolate city history'. Seriously I can't say enough. It is on the agenda for our family reunion scheduled for next year. This should definitely be a must do for anyone coming to town for the inauaguration of the next generation of 'chocolate city' history. I believe the Obama family themselves could be enlightened. Whatever you need to advance this cause, let me know. I am a bought in, sold out, satisfied customer! Thanks again for the time and effort you invested to make this tour invaluable. P.S. the recommeded restauraunt was all that, birp... "
-- Yvonne, Woodbridge, VA

"As a native Washingtonian, I didn't think there was much you could show or tell me about my home that I didn't already know. I was so very, very wrong. Corey Crane's Chocolate City Tour, which I took with 11 other family members, was a real eye-opener. No other tour in this city will (or could) provide you with the information Corey shares -- and certainly not with the passion with which he shares it. I highly recommend this amazing and unique tour to anyone who wants to know the truth about our Nation's Capitol and be enlightened to its REAL history. Great job, Corey! You'll see us again! "
-- Emille Mercer Robinson, Washington DC

"I thought this was a wonderful tour/experience. I really didnt know what to expect. I thought we were going to ride around and see the major historic buildings and statues, but what I experienced was an education about "MY" people. I am going to pass on DC's BEST KEPT SECRECT!"
-- Dawn Colbert, Dumfries, Virginia

"I thought the tour was wonderful. Even when Mr. Corey showed me the names of the men that helped Abraham Lincoln. I am going to tell my teachers and others about the history and the tour. I think Mr. Corey is the best tour guide that I have ever known. From: Brandon Colbert Age: 9"
-- Brandon Colbert 9 years old, Dumfries, Virginia

"I enjoyed my tour very much Thank you Chocolate City Tour!"
-- Patricia Jefferson from Obama Town! Chicago Illinois

"The Chocolate City Tour is like a "Tickle", it leaves you wanting to know more. This tour is African American History 101-A. The tour guide was "Electrifying And Liquid" in his presentation of history. He was full of Pride, Expression, and Passion A MUST DO When in D.C."

"The tour was amazing. I will be back to do it all over again with my children and friends on my next trip to DC! Thanks! Calvin "
-- Calvin Steede from Bermuda

"You never know where you come from…until you know your history. Chocolate City Tour is a taste of what we as African Americans need to reclaim our strength. We are the only race whose history is poorly documented in the US. This experience will become the wind beneath our wings! "
-- Mia N. McFarland, Gaithersburg Maryland

"This tour of African American sites was extraordinary! Sites & stories that even today have been hidden were revealed with great clarity and enthusiasm - a wonderful experience!!"
-- Noel Paige, Washington D.C.

"I am now hungry. Hungry for my history, hungry for all of the knowledge that I thought I had. Chocolate City Tour was inspiring, breathtaking, and spiritually moving. I look forward to the day when I can bring my family. Hey Corey, I am emailing Oprah tonight! She needs to experience this. Keep doing what you are doing. I am so proud to be an African American today! Thank You!!"
-- Jacqueline N. Barnes, Washington D.C

"I had the amazing opportunity to take this tour with my entire family, and it was the most enlightening experience I've had to date! I've the chance to take tours of some of the most interesting historic sites around the world - including rare Roman ruins throughout North Africa and ancient Jewish communities in the Sahara. But no other tour was given with as much enthusiasm and deep knowledge of (and respect for) history and cultural preservation quite like the Chocolate City Tour of Washington, DC. I have never taken a tour given by someone who has devoted so much of his life to not only learning the history that's been overlooked for years, but UNCOVERING history that's been purposefully hidden. I could not believe that after being born and raised in the Washington, DC area, I would not learn even half of my hometown's history until the age of 24. Kudos to Corey Crane! I highly recommend this tour and will definitely be bringing friends to experience it for themselves in the near (very near) future!"
-- Tamara Robinson, Ann Arbor, MI

"We recently took a tour in Washington DC with Corey who owns and runs Chocolate City Tour. While Corey took us to all the important spots in the capital his tour was unique in that he showed and told us about the history of DC from an African American perspective. Corey is highly informed about history as well as his heritage. I strongly recommend this tour which by the way is also very personalized. I was very touched when Corey dropped my friends and me right where we had parked our car. He said he wanted to make sure we were going to be safe. (Can you think of any tour guide thinking about your personal safety like that?). Not only that, his friend who was also taking the tour with us, gave us directions AND her cell phone number in case we got lost. So not only was this a very informed tour but it was also filled with these personal touches which made our trip extra delightful and memorable. Please do support this young entrepreneur if you are in DC. "
-- Amita Bhatt, Baltimore, Maryland

"Corey, Thank you for including us on this educational tour. I was overwhelmed with sadness at seeing our dark history. As stated earlier Corey, you have done your home-work. Your presentation of the extensive material was interesting grabbing our attention at all times. I am glad you were there to show us the capital from your view point. I keep going to the references you included to look for accuracy and additional information. "
-- Rupa Shukla, Houston, Texas by way of India

"It started as a normal day til Corey offered me a tour through Washington. I accepted. It was the best decision I ever made. He revealed so much to me about Washington that most people dont know and that some don't want to know. Washington is all about black history, which the government tried and still tries to hide. Most of Washington was built by blacks. Washington was also the capital of the American slave trade. If you want to see and know more about it, take the Chocolate City Tour. Now I have a totally different point of view of Washington. I am so thankful that Corey shared his knowledge with me."
-- Daniel Bischoff, Ulm, Germany

"I was very enlightened after the tour. There was so much I didnt know that reminded me of how important it is to know my history. I really enjoyed myself"
-- Thaddea Brown, Norwalk, Connecticut

-- Lupe Ruiz and Priscilla Gibbs, Lubbock, Texas

"Very informative. An in-depth look at Black History particularly in the D.C area. Amazing to find out that a lot of history that extols the virtues and contributions of Blacks is well-known but not promoted by the establishment. L'Enfant Plaza should be renamed! Phillip Reids's name should be inscribed on the Capitol building! Still in 2008, America does not promote the absolute truth. --- This tour was unlike any other... thought provoking and honest. I enjoyed it and all the information and facts I learned. Thank you for the educational experience. --- The tour was very good. Corey your are very good at taking people on a tour. My favorite part about the tour was going into the slave dungeon. "
-- Taffe Family, Coy, Lauren, and 6 year old Justice out of Bowie Maryland

"I have taken the tour twice and look forward to bringing more people each time I take the tour. The tour is mind blowing. He makes you think, makes you mad, happy, sad, cry. It's so emotional. It's a tour you have to experience. "

"I thought I knew my history but the hands on Chocolate City Tour educated my mind and opened my heart to the power and strength of Black people. The feeling of belonging to a group and understanding the richness of our history must be felt by young and old. The tour will strengthen your knowledge of true heritage and it should be taught to all. Knowledge is Power!"
-- Gwendolyn Brooks, Washington, DC

"I've never been on a tour of DC, or a tour of anywhere like this one. Growing up and going to school in DC, I wasn't told the history of my people or where I came from. This was a beautiful and very educating tour of the "true" history of DC and the major parts that Blacks had in it's history. Seeing and learning how "free" men and women were kidnapped from their homes and sold south, I wish generations today could understand the struggle and the fight that our ancestors had to endure to reach where we are today; maybe this will motivate some of them to have a better appreciation for life and more drive and passion for themselves."
-- Lauren Morgan, Washington, DC

"The tour was excellent! What you learn on the tour makes you thirst for more. You hunger to learn your history to uncover & discover what has been stolen, rewritten and hidden from us. This is the tour that you will go on time and time again. My words alone can't express how this tour has blessed me."
-- Debra Wiggins,Glen Burnie, Maryland

"Very good information that I didnt know but now I know. I will tell other young and old Black men about the experience. These are the men who need to know this the most."
-- Joe Barham, Maryland

"

THIS IS TRULY A POWERFUL TESTIMONY OUR THE TRUE HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY THAT IS BEING TOLD BY YOU. MUCH SUCCESS IN YOUR TOURS MAY GOD BLESS YOU. "
-- BENJAMIN, JACKSONVILLE FL.

"I highly recommend this tour! It helped me realize how truly historic this inauguration was. Obama stood in back of the Capitol Building taking the oath to govern a country that would have sold him on an auction block on the very same lawn where millions of people watched him being sworn in by a white judge while his African American wife held President Lincoln's Bible. There was no way that I would have found these historic sites and learned the true identity and history of DC without Corey's guidance. He is the ultimate professional and very knowledgeable, and I will do my best to spread the word about his endeavor! Free your mind, and take the Chocolate City Tour!"
-- Angelina Arrington, Los Angeles, California

If we don't know where we come from then we are bound to repeat the mistakes of the past. So many of our African American children do not know about their history. Thank you so much Corey for sharing all of your knowledge with us. Love and Peace!"
-- Joann Watson, East Point Georgia

"This was an historical tour that I will never forget. I was feeled with emotions for two important reasons. One was knowing within 24 hours America would witness our first African American President ( Barack H Obama) and your moving emotional tour that left me speechless but educated about our history. I truly appreciate the time and efforts that Corey Of Chocolate City Tour provided us with. His knowledge and determination to unveil Black American History was wonderful. Reality, set in. Thank Corey for your hard work and dedication."
-- Helen Shoffner_Boykin, Indianapolis IN

"It is with much enthusiasm that I write this testimonial in reference to The Chocolate City Tour that I was fortunate to take during the most historic event of my life which was the 2009 Inauguration Week. It was emotional and sometimes even painful to learn history about our Nation's Capital that was left out of our history books. Our guide was not only polite and articulate but he is very knowledgeable and obviously compassionate about African American History and about getting the true facts told. I was accompanied by my young adult daughter and two 10th grade students who impressed me by the questions they asked which is a true indication of how our guide gave them reason to think very deeply about their own roots and wonder why their history has been kept as a deep dark secret for so many years. As I watched the Inauguration, I thought of all of the African Americans who built the Nation's Capital where our first Black President took the oath of office. I was proud to know their blood, sweat and tears were not lost and forgotten but part of every picture the millions of people took on that cold historic day in Washington, D. C.. I stronly recommend that people of all races, creeds, religions and colors plan to take this life changing tour. I have shared many details I have learned from The Chocolate City Tour with my colleagues and I plan to have a group of 25 students take the tour when they visit Washington D.C. in late February. Congratulations to Chocolate City Tour...your vision will help make people see a very important part of our history more clearly. "

"You can tell the slave dungeon was a place of terror and suffering. Behind the iron doors you can guarantee that there was intense human suffering beyond what anybody could imagine. It is unfortunate that a number of the people who were kept there had no opportunity to tell their story or experiences. I was so frustrated to learn about enslaved people’s experiences. I had to hold tears because I am sensitive to human suffering. It is good that the truth is preserved about our fellow blacks suffering. At last I am happy that I have been there. It is so puzzling to see human beings priced for sale. For me no amount of money can buy a human being."
-- Lufuno Muvhango, (Polokwane) South Africa

We as Black Americans are not accepted by our true heritage of Africans and not accepted as Americans. I now know thanks to the Chocolate City Tour that this country actually belongs to the Blackman and have a new found pride in my heritage. Thank you very much it was also enlightening for my son age 9 who attended with me. "

-- Victoria Mack, East Windor, New Jersey

"For us the tour was not only educational but historically informative for our culture. It was also inspiring for the future and made us grateful and appreciative for our lives and how we were raised. The new knowledge made us aware and conscious of our limitation of freedom. This is an inspiration for our Black youth. They will definitely be enlightened and motivatived to strive for more in life since they do have the opportunities. The tour and Corey made us feel like royalty. In the 30 years that we have been here, this experience taught us about the brilliance, creativity and invotation of our culture. Well done Corey! *The price was very reasonable for the amount of information that we received. Suggestions on restaraunts were great. This tour was more than just a basic routine tour. It was a deep, "in the roots" type tour. The brouchures were very infomative and well designed. We will be taking the tour again and we will bring more youth. **The best thing about the tour was the 1st Lincoln Memorial. It really blew our socks off! ***We loved it and want to come again!!***"
-- Keith & Sylvia Hill and Family, Woodbridge, VA

"We could have never stumbled upon something like Chocolate City Tour in a million years. This was exactly what I was looking for while vacationing in DC excited and proud of our new President. Taking my children to experience black history since we could not go to the inauguration, we went touring our nation’s capital. To my surprise there was nothing connecting us to the new excitement of our government by visiting the Capitol--namely--where american history is portrayed on the walls and portraits and statues. I asked our tour guide at the Capitol--I see the history of the U.S but something is missing....Black history..slavery which our country was built on nor do I see a picture of OUR president...He told me "He doesnt work here, if you want to see a picture of him go to the white house thats where he works". There was only a small statue of MLK from armpit to head on a tall pedestal. That was it! I was disappointed in DC until I went on Chocolate City Tour. Thanks Corey for "pulling my teeth" my smile is a lot better! God bless! The Hamiltons "
-- Paul & Carol Hamilton, Dallas, Texas

"The tour was highly informative. Although I pride myself on my knowledge of history especially Black history, I was astounded at the amount of hidden history right in our nation’s capital. Chocolate City Tour was not only Black history, it was American history. It should be taught starting in elementary school and continuing through college. The truth revealed on this tour will remain hidden in plain sight because America has not yet come to terms with its racist history, it has not acknowledged the vast contributions of Blacks to the creation and success of the country, and it has not accepted the reality that w/o Blacks there could be no America. Knowledge is power! "
-- Denitra Bovian-Bazile

"Oustanding tour that reveals a new world of History that is kept Hidden from the majority of the world. This tour is current knowledge of Past History. This tour is a "MUST" for ALL People."
-- Keith A. Johnson, Hampton, Virginia

-- Rev. Lynn Horton, William Carruth, & Terry R. London, Capitol Heights MD & Hampton Roads VA

"WOW! What can I say. What an unanticipated delight for our family's spring vacation. Our intention was to take the children to D.C. to do the Whitehouse, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial etc. tour, but what we got was much more. It was something we as African Americans can identify with personally. It is a must if you are into your roots. If you are not of African descent it should be equally as interesting to you too. The facts are something we've never heard before. Corey, the tour guide was well informed and passionate about sharing what he knows. Come see for yourself. I am sure you will be pleased."
-- Ruffin & Salaam Family, New Jersey & Georgia

"There are no words that can express how in awe I am of a young black educated brother, to be so passionate about history, not just any history but African-American History, willing, sharing and teaching TRUE knowledge to his brother and sister with such love. I truly appreciate you Corey, and I applaude and support enthusiasm. The tour was remarkable, it revealed hidden key facts of History. I have to go again, just to absorb everything. "
-- Franchestia, Washington, DC

"TRUST ME – THIS IS A WORTHWHILE TOUR!!! What a rewarding and wonderful experience. I checked out this website, read the testimonials, and immediately decided to take the tour - and here I am giving my own testimonial!!! The tour was GREAT! You haven't really seen DC until you've taken THIS tour!!! I learned more than I ever imagined - and I am STILL talking about it everywhere I go. -- Ronet Mtichell, Frederick, Md

"The experience and knowledge gained was enormous. I heard facts that I didn't know existed. There are many facts gained that you won't find in a textbook or learn from school. These are facts kept to hide the stories of African Americans. This is a must see tour because you will leave wanting to learn more about Blacks."
-- Shante Shepherd, George Mason University

"While taking in a quick tour of the Washington Monument and Mall area, a co-worker and I were approached by Mr. Corey Crane, who asked if we wanted to tour a Slave Dungeon. Since I had toured Washington, DC before and this was the first time for my co-worker, the mentioning of Slave Dungeons peaked my interest. Because it was after 5:00 P.M. and all of the major tourist attractions were closed or closing shortly, my co-worker and I decided to take Corey up on his offer. Corey informed us that Chocolatecitytours normally offers a full tour of the Washington, DC area, but because of the lateness of the day he could only provide us with a tour of the Slave Dungeon. On the ride to the Slave Dungeon, Corey enlightened us with a different prospective of Washington, DC history that I enjoyed very much, since I consider myself a history buff. When we arrived at the build that contained the Slave Dungeon that’s when Corey shifted into high gear with his sharing of knowledge about the Slave Dungeon and other historical facts. He provided so much information in the short time we were with Corey that I know I must return to receive the full tour and share with others about Chocolatecitytours, so they would consider making this one of their must “dos” when visiting our nation’s capital."
-- WC Pope, San Antonio, TX

"Wow, where do I start! I grew-up in the D.C. area as a child, and was expected to learn the preamble and the constitution and a lot of other things that did not pertain to my black heritage, but we were never taught the facts that I learned on the Chocolate City Tour. I always knew there was more to the past than his-story. I was completely satisfied with every aspect of the tour. I am very happy that I was able to experience the tour with my family. Cory did a wonderful job presenting fact, and theory about what happened in the past. I would definitely recommend that everyone experience this tour, not just Black folk. I left the tour with a sense of pride and understanding, and why it is so important to be educated..... so that we won't repeat the past. That was the best $35 that me, and my family I ever spent. Keep doing what you are doing, God bless."
-- Hubbard-Spinner's, Atlanta Ga

We, too were deeply humbled over the experiences of our forefathers and we thank God for Corey, his vision, his historical knowledge and his passion to share it all! Definitely after taking the tour and conversing with Corey, God's people will not be able to come away with a lack of knowledge - at least, not in this area. Thanks again Corey!"

"I met Mr. Cory after I had just called the monument, "that monument junk". He took my family and me on a tour. I learned that day that what I thought of as "junk" was build by black enslaved carpenters. I will never call any of our beautifully built buildings "junk" again. Thanks Mr. Cory for teaching me about my history "black history"."

"When I visited Washington,D.C. I stayed at the Latham in Georgetown. Upon arrival I questioned several of the locals about african american tours and they knew of none. I got online and researched this tour myself, because it was very important to expose my daughter to our history and how african american contributions affect our everyday lives. The tour was very educational and inspiring. It opened our hearts and minds to our ancestors sacrifices, and gave my daughter a new reason to feel proud about her heritage and her ethnicity. We can never truly appreciate where we are going until we acknowledge where we've been and the sacrifices made to get us here. "
-- Stephanie, Houston, TX.

We booked a tour of the slave dungeon that day and the next day we took in the complete Chocolate City Tour and we are so glad we did. This tour has challenged our group to dig deeper into our true history. "My family and I were sitting in front of the Washington Monument about to start walking around to see the sites when this young man approached us. Corey asked us if we would like to take a tour of american history that we wouldn't get from any of the other tours. I thank God that we decided to take the tour. The young man brought his 'A' game and the information and history he gave us that day was truly a Blessing. There is so much history there that isn't talked about. We took the tour July 1, 09. Since returning home I have done as he asked and looked up the information myself and Corey has his facts straight. The stories and information is right where he said it would be in the library of Congress. Upon returning home I have shared with my Sunday school class and anyone else that will listen. Anyone going to DC I recommend you take the tour. It is our responsibility to past this knowledge on to our children."

After listening to what the tour had to offer, we thought why not, we can ride around and see the sights and not get tired from all the walking. Man did we make a good decision. The tour was outstanding. This young man did his research and even had supporting doucmentation. "Excellent tour! Corey did a great job of presenting the facts of Black History in Washington DC and not sugar coating it to make it "desirable". Yes, some of the facts were not easy to hear, however, it is an important part of American History that we all have a Right and Need to know and understand to move forward to a more prosperous and civil future. I know, for one, that I will look at things a lot more differently than I had previously and try to use this tour as a learning tool. Great job Cory! And hope all the best in the future. - Chris"

"Corey Crane's Chocolate City Tour is the BEST guided tour I have taken, period! Without a doubt, Corey knows the black history of DC and the surrounding area from A to Z. It was a pleasure to learn the facts, apart from the commonly shared, sugar-coated stories on the history of the DC area. Corey takes you to the location and back in time with indepth knowledge of the topic fueled by research from the Library of Congess and the National Archives. Corey's tour is not a pre-recorded, drive around the city; it is knowledge-driven, stop, get out, take pictures, ask questions, an interactive experience you will not get on the other well-worn tours. Comparably priced, but far superior to the competition. JOB WELL DONE! THANK YOU COREY!"
-- Leon & Celesta Bates, Indianapolis, IN

-- C. Whitehead - Miami/Tallahassee

"I just wanted to thank you for the knowledge you shared and tell you to keep doing what you doing. You are needed in your calling and despite the obstacles, your work is noticed, well received and needed. I see the inspiration you give to many and although you may not directly reap the benefits of your works, you sow the seeds of self-knowledge and self-awareness and it in turn benefits the greater good of our society...Just like the works of the famous anthropologist, Dr. Cheikh Anta Diop sought to correct the "mistruths" of the African Origins of the Egyptian culture, you are poised to correct and uncover the "mistruths" of America's Egypt (aka Washington D.C.)"
-- Blaqthought, Alexandria, VA

"i JUST RECENTLY TOOK THE TOUR AND I WAS VERY APPREHESIVE AT FIRST. THE EXPERIENCE WAS AMAZING, MY FAMILY AND I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT WE SAW AND WHAT WAS SAID. CORY DID A FANTASTIC JOB, HE WAS KNOWLEGABLE OF HIS HISTORY. OF ALL THE TOURS I HAVE TAKEN IN WASHINGTON DC, BY FAR THIS WAS THE BEST. CARRIE TUCKER THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE EXPERIENCE!!! "
-- CARRIE TUCKER, AKRON, OH

"It's amazing how no one today seems to be offended or apprehensive about discussions or dialogue of the Jewish Holocaust; however, any discussion of slavery in America then all of a sudden everyone begins to feel "uncomfortable" or "uneasy". We have been "conditioned" not to discuss slavery anymore [read: politically incorrect]...Mainstream America will continue to shy away from what was their legacy for almost 400 years. Corey's tour helped shed more light on the history, trials, accomplishments and tragedies of african slaves and freemen living in the DC area during colonial America (1763). We need to [re]discover and embrace our history by passing it down to the next generation. We must harness modern technology and ensure that the historical truths uncovered by Corey and countless others like him are preserved, because it will NOT be taught in schools nor will it be displayed in public museums. It is critical that we support the cause to uncover and teach the masses the truth of history. Such facts like the Congolese Pygmy (Ota Benga) who was "on display" with monkeys in the Bronx Zoo in 1906. I challenge each of you who toured with Corey to take responsibility and do research for one (1) fact, then teach by posting your fact (with references/facts) here. Do not contain what you have learned with Corey, refer others to experience the eye-opening truths. I will close with two quotes: "Each one teach one." because "A history forgotten is a history repeated." Keep your Third Eye open..."
-- Blaqthought

"This tour was so power packed that I have been referring this tour to everyone. The information is ver informative and life changing. You never know what you don't KNOW!"
-- LaTonya Jackson, Waldorf MD

"Recently my family and I experienced the Chocolate City Tour, the official Black history tour of Washington, D.C. Without reservations, this is a must see tour for all African Americans (and White Americans as well). For two years, the tour guide, a graduate of Norfolk State University, researched very extensively, and designed a tour that encompasses the most hidden facts and the rarely seen places that pertain to Washington,DC's history. Highlights, competently narrated by the tour guide, include: a visit to a dungeon used to forcefully confine and torture thousands of human beings (our forefathers); auction blocks and facts of what actually took place in the nation's capital; photos of the skilled Black craftsmen who built the White House, U.S. Capitol, Library of Congress; a drive by Black owned banks, hotels, restaurants, and insurance companies, created, built, and owned by Black entrepreneurs; the opportunity to see the homes and neighborhoods of local and national heroes, and to learn how they changed America; the never before seen photograph of Phillip Reid, the famous Black engineer who cast the Statue of Freedom atop the U.S. Capitol. These highlights are just a tip of the iceberg! During the mobile tour, we stopped often, took pictures, descended into the dungeon, learned many hidden facts about our history, asked questions, touched many of the slave entrapments, and empathized with what our forefathers had to endure! After a four hour, extremely informing and mesmerizing tour, you'll be asking for more; trust me! So, the next time you are in D.C., and planning to tour the White House, the Capitol, Smithsonian Institute, and the like, make sure that the Chocolate City Tour is among the first you experience. You'll not regret it!! Additionally, if any of you have taken the tour, please share your thoughts and impression with me!"
-- Dr. Dorothy Thomas, Newport News, VA

If you’re looking for an eye opening and awakening Black History experience then Chocolate City Tours is definitely the tour for you."

-- Wade V. Jones Sr. Richmond, Va. (Myrick Crew)

"Some members of my family took this tour and the teenagers in the family shared what they learned with their friends and it was a real eye opener for them as well as the adults. I encourage families to take their young people to experience this tour; because it helps them to remember not to take their education lightly. So many of our ancestors were beaten and killed so that we could have a better life - we can never forget! "
-- Avis White Thomas, Temple Hills, Maryland 20748

"Honestly I don't even know where to start, This guy Corey is not only an amazing guy, but he is a true blessing to want to take the time to speak for the unspoken of the past. This tour is something that should be required in every school system, (but we know who wont allow that). With that being said, My father, brother, and sister took ran into Corey on the street and was sooo grateful that we took this tour and has opened my eyes to learn more about our black history and not only in DC or in February, but in every city and all year round. But i will honestly say this man will tell you everything that really needs to be known about our leaders of the capital, our ancestry, and our lifestyle. I once again encourage all to visit. blacks, white, purple, or poke-a-dot, because "Our history is real history, not his-story!""
-- Jacolby, Houston, Texas

"Prior to moving to Chicago, I lived in DC for two years. I learned more on this tour than I did throughout my entire time of living in the city-I have been recommending it to all of my friends! It was truly an amazing experience!!"
-- Christina L. -Chicago, Il

"Was interested in a Segway tour. I wasn't sure at first as I didn't realise how fast they were (we even overtook a bus at one point) but it was really fantastic, despite all the snow. We only did 30 minutes as we had a plane to catch but I could easily have kept on going for more time. I would recommend Corey and his Segways to anyone. Awesome!!!"
-- Matt, Middlesbrough, England

"wow, corey, i really enjoyed the tour especially to the slave dungeon"I have to say this was the best tour I have ever been on. It allowed me to find out about history I never knew existed. "

-- Brandy,Norfolk,VA

"Wow! What an awesome, educational and informative tour. Cory thanks for having the courage to educate us on the impact of African Americans in the development of not only our capitol but African American history overall in DC. Chocolate City Tours is a tour you must take while visiting DC. We often hear the politically correct history – but, the TRUTH is in the facts of this tour. PLEASE treat you and your family to one of the greatest educational experience you may ever receive. The history of DC will have you overwhelmed with emotion. Learning how this country was shaped, going back as far as George Washington, Robert E. Lee, and Thomas Jefferson from the perspective of real history is enlightening to say the least. We have been feed so many lies over time (George Washington didn’t have wooden teeth, he had the beautiful teeth of his negro slaves) it is now time to seek the truth ourselves so future generations can begin to heal and understand their true HIS-tory. The tears, screams, and energy of standing in a slave dungeon cannot truly be expressed in words you must experience it for yourself. All I can tell you is being able to hold a shackle over 100 years old that imprisoned my people is breathtaking. Learning and seeing the names of African Americans who were torn from their families, housed in a dungeon like they were not human, and sold into slavery is hard to imagine for someone born in this century having never experienced slavery. You have heard the story now you can experience the story. My husband and I toured with two of our granddaughters (ages 3, & 10) and to see names on the wall of children their ages that were sold like commodities is just heart wrenching. Cory is a great historian – thanks for taking the chance in educating us all. You will be blessed abundantly in your life for sharing this awesome history of our country with so many folks. CHOCOLATE CITY TOURS IS A MUST while visiting DC!! "
